Plot… What is it good for?
Plot. What is it?
Well, in the simplest of terms, plot is the structure. You need a beginning, a middle, and an end. But what the hell does that even mean? You can’t use that vague definition to create anything useful.
So try this instead…
Think of the beginning as the current reality. It introduces the world, the characters, and their desires.
The middle? That’s the journey. More specifically, the journey to achieve or to overcome something. This is where your work can really stand apart. Your characters have to want to achieve or overcome something. You definitely need a goal. And preferably a couple of obstacles thrown in for good measure.
Finally, the end is all about the new reality. What is the current state of your character’s world after they either accomplish or fail to accomplish their goal?
